Bottle Fountain

AGES: 3+                   ACTIVITY TIME: 5 Mins +                   PREP. TIME: – 5 mins

Create water magic with our bottle fountain activity! Just inflate a balloon, seal it, and unleash a surprise fountain for simple, splashy fun.

Things You Need

  • Plastic drink bottle
  • Long pin/needle
  • Nail/screwdriver
  • Lighter
  • Balloon

Preparation

Prepare the materials close to a water source for easy preparation.

Let’s Do It

  1. Bottle Cap:
Heat the needle with a lighter and poke numerous holes in the bottle cap.
  2. Make a Hole in the Bottle:
Heat a nail or small screwdriver with the lighter and make a hole in the bottom of the bottle where the plastic is a bit stronger to allow for proper sealing later.
  3. Insert Balloon:
Insert a balloon into the bottle and fold the top over the top of the bottle to hold it open and in place.
  4. Inflate the Balloon:
Blow up the balloon inside the bottle. When inflated, quickly cover the hole at the base of the bottle with your finger before moving your mouth away from the bottle to prevent deflation. Keep your finger covering the hole at the base of the bottle until step 7.
  5. Fill Balloon with Water:
Take the bottle to a tap and fill the balloon with water.
  6. Prepare for Launch:
Head to an area where getting wet is not a concern. Put the cap on the bottle while still covering the hole.
  7. Fountain Time:
Finally, release the bottle and watch the fountain erupt!
