Things You Need
- candle
- candle holder(optional)
- lighter
- dish (for water)
- glass or vase(large)
- food coloring(optional)
Preparation
Super easy. Just gather all the materials and have some water ready. If little ones are doing it, then having a long lighter can be safer.
Let’s Do It
- Set Candle:
Light the candle and melt a small amount of wax onto the bottom of the candle holder or dish. Quickly place the candle on the melted wax to secure it. - Water:
Pour water into the dish, reaching a depth of about 1-3 cms. Add a few drops of food coloring to enhance visibility. - Light the Candle:
Ignite the candle and wait until it reaches full power before placing the glass vase or cup over it. - Observe:
Observe the water level changes. Initially, water under the glass rises due to the air expanding from the heat. As the candle diminishes and the air temperature inside the glass decreases, water moves back into the glass and the water level rises. It’s a fascinating process to witness!
