Hotseat – A Fun and High-Energy ESL Speaking Game

Hotseat is an exciting ESL speaking activity designed to help English learners build confidence, improve vocabulary, and practice speaking naturally in a fun, supportive environment.

To play, divide your class into two or three teams. Each team chooses a student to sit in the hotseat at the front of the class. A word is displayed behind the student, and their teammates must describe the word in English without saying the word itself. The student listens to the clues and tries to guess as many words as possible before the timer runs out.

The result is a fast-paced speaking activity that gets students talking, listening, thinking, and using English.
