Charades and Drawing - FREE

Charades is a tried and true classic. Most people know this as a fun game you play with family or friends. But it is also a great ESL speaking activity in classes. The basic form of charades, where students act out a word is perfect for reviewing vocabulary, but it can also be played as a speaking game (taboo) to help more advanced classes improve their English free-talking skills. Simply have students speak about a word instead of acting it out. This game is suitable for 3 to 15 players and is perfect for beginner to intermediate levels. Playing time can range from 5 to 30 minutes.

Charades is a great ESL English game to get your kids excited and out of their comfort zones to enhance their learning experience.

Speed Drawing(Pictionary) Still the undisputed king of ESL classroom fun for young learners. While it may not be the most educational game, it does review vocabulary, but it’s so much fun that you’d be doing your students a disservice by not including it in your classes from time to time. English students love making wacky and sometimes amazing pictures, and it really helps them bond as a class. Give your students a break and let them enjoy this simple ESL speaking activity.

This game is ideal for 4 to 16 players, and is suitable for those at beginner to intermediate levels. The game usually takes between 10 and 30 minutes to play. To start, divide the class into two or three teams. One player from each team then comes to the front and draws the same picture, while their teammates try to guess what it is.

Prep Once Use Forever!
Both Charades and Speed Drawing are excellent ESL activities for getting your English students excited and out of their comfort zones. With their engaging gameplay and opportunities for skill-building, they’re sure to enhance your students’ learning experience and make your classes a lot more fun.
